Data Science Intern at Meridian Analytics
Dear Dr. Patel,
I am writing to apply for the Data Science Internship at Meridian Analytics. I am a junior studying Computer Science with a concentration in Machine Learning at Georgia Tech, and I am eager to apply my coursework in statistical modeling and data engineering to real-world business problems this summer.
In my Advanced Data Mining course last semester, I built a predictive churn model for a simulated SaaS dataset that achieved 91% accuracy using gradient-boosted trees. I handled the entire pipeline from data cleaning in Python to feature engineering to model evaluation, and I presented the results to a panel of three faculty members who selected it as one of the top five projects in a class of 120 students. I have since extended the project on my own by deploying it as a Flask API and documenting the architecture on GitHub.
Outside of coursework, I serve as a data analyst for Georgia Tech's Student Government Association, where I built a Tableau dashboard tracking student organization funding allocation across 400+ groups. The dashboard replaced a manual spreadsheet process and is now used by the budget committee in quarterly funding reviews.
What excites me about Meridian is your work applying machine learning to supply chain optimization. I read your team's blog post on demand forecasting for seasonal products and found the approach to handling sparse data particularly compelling. I want to learn from analysts who are solving these kinds of applied problems at scale.
I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss how my technical skills and enthusiasm for applied data science can contribute to your team this summer. Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Daniel Kim
