I am writing to apply for the Backend Engineer position at Orion Cloud Systems. Your senior engineer, Priya Mehta, recommended I reach out after we discussed the role at a local meetup last month. Based on her description of the team's work on distributed caching infrastructure, I believe my experience is a strong fit.

I currently work as a backend engineer at Vantage Software, where I build and maintain Go microservices that handle 18 million API requests per day for our payments platform. Over the past year, I redesigned our caching layer using Redis Cluster, reducing p99 latency from 340ms to 85ms and eliminating a recurring cache stampede issue that had caused three production incidents in the previous quarter. I also introduced structured logging and distributed tracing across 22 services, which cut our mean time to resolution on production issues from 45 minutes to under 12.

Priya mentioned that Orion is migrating from a monolithic architecture to microservices, which is a transition I led at Vantage over the past 18 months. I understand the technical challenges involved, from service boundary decisions to data consistency across distributed systems, and I also understand the organizational challenges of getting teams aligned on a new architecture without slowing down feature delivery.

What interests me about Orion beyond the technical work is the engineering culture Priya described. Ownership-driven teams, meaningful code review, and a genuine investment in developer experience are the qualities I look for in my next role.
